My father was Howard Coffey who's mother was Gertrude Yancey and her mother was Alice Bellair. All my life I was under the impression that she (Alice)was Cherokee. However, just before my father died about 5 yrs. ago, he mentioned that she was of Acadian descent. Can't find any info. as of yet. Anybody out there have any info. on Alice Bellair and her indian blood? All census info. indicates that she is white. This is not suprising as there was no benefit to being on indian descent at that time. However, nowadays its very important to know as there are plenty of benefits available--educational,medical,financial... William Coffey
