There are a lot of different spellings. Jackel usually has umlauts or two small dots over the "a". People who don't have the umlauts in their type-face, ususally spell it Jaekel. Straussburger's Pennsylvania Pioneers has copies of the original St. Andrew ship manifest. Most spelled their names Jackel (with umlauts). Some spelled it Jakel (with the umlauts), and some spelled the name Jakele. In addition, the women spelled their names Jackelin (with umlauts). The suffix "in" is the feminine version in German. The Germanic groups tacked on this suffix at the end of many of the last names in the early centuries. Lastly, some of the Yeakels changed their names after a century here. Some changed to Yakels, and others to Yeagels or Yeagles. They just want to confuse us.
Meschter also underwent some changes. Meschter turned to Meister and, then, Master.
I always forget to tell Yeakel descendants that the Yeakels have a coat of arms that was assigned in Saxony. They also have a motto. If you want to here the description, tell me.
