I am not sure if there is a connection but my great grandfather James Henry Winmill (somehow his name changed from Winmill to Whinmill from his birth in 1886 to his death in 1961.) His birth was registered in Southam, Warwickshire. I think his parents lived in Helmdon, Northamptonshire (I have ordered the birth certificate to confirm this, I cannot find any more James Henry Winmills anywhere with this birthdate.) If this is true he had a brother called Richard born in 1888 (Helmdon). James worked on the canals and ended up in Offchurch Locks, Warwickshire. Was it Richard who walked to Monmouth?
