A biography/family history of Julius Waber, Hinsdale, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 1012 and 1013. Julius was born, 6 Jun 1881, son of Frank and Theresa (Summer) Waber.
Frank was born in Vienna, Austria, came to MN as a young man, and established a blacksmith shop at Elysian. Theresa was born near Vienna and died in Elysian in 1891. Children of Frank and Theresa: Rudolph (a farmer near LeSueur county, MN); Julius (Hinsdale, MT); Emil & Oswald (rancher/farmer in the Milk River Valley of MT). Frank married Miss Schram and they had three daughters: Christina (Mrs. P.L. Gainsforth, Dodson, MT); Anna (Hinsdale, MT); Josephine (Minneapolis, MN).
Julius Waber attended one year of high school at Elysian and continued farming until age 20 when he went to Oklahoma for a year to work on the construction of the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas railroad. He returned to MN and in 1905 moved to Montana and became a cattle rancher in Rock Creek Canon. He homesteaded 5 miles north of Hinsdale and lived there five years, later buying land nearer Hinsdale. After leaving the ranch in 1909, Julius served as postmaster of Hinsdale for five years. In Jun 1910, Julius opened the first drug store in Hinsdale. He served 9 years on the School Board, for two years was a county commissioner of Valley county, and was an organizer and director of the First National Bank of Hinsdale.
