Jeremy's paternal grandmother was Gladys Carman Vair [Hillman]of Purbrook [east of Bracebridge] [1913 July 16 - 2007 Jan 4] and her husband was William Vair [1903?-1947- Gravenhurst Sanitorium ] they married in 1930 and had 4 children: Mavis [Carleton], Ruth [Collins], Marie [Baker] and James [Jeremy's father] all live in Barrie.
John Vair, brother of William married Blanche [?] and was childless. It was a large family and, after the collapse of the economy in the 1930's, many moved to the Vair Mansion on Toronto Street [#11, I think] and converted it to 11 apts. It stands today. This large estate was owned by Steven Vair [his son was a hockey star and coach later of Timmins, also named Steven Vair] who was a large landowner in the area and grew flowers west of Ferndale road in an array of greenhouses. I have acquired but not documented a number of old pictures. Unfortunately they are mostly of the Hillman side of the family as William died 50 years ago and his wife was not close to the rest of the Vair family which scattered in the years following the Great Depression.
The connection with the Demray family may be through Gladys Vair [Hillman] and her brother Frape [Blondie] who married Irene Demray, He died of Cancer [I believe in 1944] Irene then Married Harvey Wylie and lived in Ahmic Harbour till his death, she passed away, I believe a few years ago in a home in Parry Sound. I have a picture of them on their wedding day in [I think] Fraserburg.
