I am looking for the parents of Sara Elizabeth Shackelford, born in 1837. She is a 13 year old in the 1850 Madison Co AL census,with her 7 year old sister Margaret. They are living with John Heathcock (Hathcock) and his wife, Margaret Shackelford Cook Heathcock. Margaret was the daughter of "old Richard" Shackelford who came with his large family from Virginia to Madison Co AL. Margaret and her first husband, John Cook, had a daughter, Emily, who married her first cousin, Calvin Shackelford--the son of Margaret's brother James. In the 1850 census, Emily, a widow, lives next door, and her teenage sons live with Margaret, along with Sara Elizabeth and her sibling. The deceased Calvin Shackelford had a sister named Sara Elizabeth; she could be an aunt of our ancestor. Our Sara Elizabeth married Hiram Okes 1 Feb 1854 in Madison County, AL when she was 17. He was killed in the Civil War and she died at age 35, so her little boy was reared by his paternal grandparents. He never knew anything about his mother's people. Can anyone help me solve the mystery of Sara Elizabeth? Thanks!
