I came across an article in the New York Times, 27 July 1853 about the attack and murder of Elizabeth RAINS, wife of John RAINS of Pettis Co, MO that took place on Sunday morning, 3 July 1853. The Rains' oldest boy and two younger children were injured in the attack.
This is not my line but I thought it might provide information to someone researching this line.
