Marcella "Sally" Mae Rains, age 85, of Richmond, Ind., formerly from Celina, Ohio, died July 19, 2007, at Friends Fellowship Community with her sons Bob and Larry DaPrato at her side.
She was born in Auglaize County, Ohio, on June 3, 1922, to Grover Grundish and Cassie Haeseker and lived in Celina, Ohio, most of her life until moving into Friends Fellowship in March of 2004.
Marcella attended Ohio State University and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1962. She taught at West Elementary School in Celina from 1960-1989.
She was a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Sorority, Mercer County Teachers Association, Mercer County Retired Teacher's Association, Ohio Retired Teacher's Association, Northmoor Country Club (as an avid golfer) and St. Paul's Church of Christ in St. Mary's, Ohio.
She married Robert F. DaPrato in 1943 and later married Roy Rains in 1972. Both are deceased.
Survivors include her sons, Bob DaPrato (Janet) of Richmond and Larry DaPrato of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, David DaPrato of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Ross DaPrato of Richmond; nieces and nephews, Tom Grunden, John Grunden, Bill Grunden, Dick Grunden, Nancy Oen, Philip Grundish, Cassie Panik, Art Grundish, Sara Light, Carl Grundish; sister-in-law, Katie Grundish; and cousin, Pauline Livengood.
Three brothers, Walden, Clair and Roger Grundish; and a sister, Aileen Grunden, preceded her in death.
She enjoyed the good friendship of Winnie Keister, Margaret Fuhrwerk, Collette Dugan, Elaine Marbaugh, Olive Miller, Dottie Monroe, Mary Kay Smalley, Jan Temple and Richard Armstrong, among many others.
The family will receive friends and celebrate her life on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 3-5 p.m., after which a short remembrance service will be held at W.H. Dick and Sons Funeral Home in Celina, Ohio.
