I am posting this as information about Confederate General James Edwards Rains. He was an attorney in Nashville, TN. having served as City Attorney and editor of the Nashville Republican Banner (different from "Nashville Banner") He enlisted as a private in the 11th TN. was elected Captain, and was a Brigider General when killed at the Battle of Murfreesboro / Stones River on December 31, 1862. (also known as the Battle of the Bands because of the respective bands trying to out-play each other the night before the battle) His last words were "forward my brave boys forward!" Gen. James E. Rains, married Ida Yateman of Maury Co., TN., they had one child, Laura Yateman Rains, (b. April 1859, d.? ). (We do not have any photos of Laura and if any other family members have a photo with her in it we would really appreciate a copy) Laura Yateman Rains married Leroy Johnston Ellis, Sr. (b. Eufauala, AL. 6/21/1854, d. 1941). They lived in Fanwood, New Jersey. Children: Dorothy Ellis, (b.7/08/ 1891; d. 1964), William Josiah Ellis, (b.1893, d. 1901), Ida Yateman Ellis (b.1895, d. 1901), Leroy J. Ellis, Jr., (b. 4/01/1899 d. Jan. 11, 1972), and James Rains Ellis, (b. 9/18/1899, d. Oct./1972). Leroy Johnston Ellis, Jr. Married Dorothy Mitchell, (b. 01/10/ 1899, d. 11/01/ 1976) from Mobile, Alabama. Children: Leroy J.
