Asahel Rains Hammer, Jr. lawyer of Warren County Tennessee applied for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution in 1908.
He states he is the grandson of Elisha Hammer, Jr. and Rosana Rains; the great-grandson of Asahel Rains and Nancy Duncan; and the Great-great-grandson of John Rains. The application states John Rains was a soldier of the Revolution from Randolph County, N. C.
