Roger,
I am very interested in the DNA project. I have been working on my Rabun line for several years and hit a dead end in Wake, NC. I descend from Renson Rabun who moved to GA about 1817 and is PROBABLY the son of William Rabun died Wake Co 1813. We have long suspected that this line descended from Richard Raibone of 1732 Herico, VA. I was surpised to see that you beleive John of Surry/Prince George, VA to be a different line. We thought he was a descendant of Richard's. Richard named six sons in his 1732 will (George, Richard, John, William, Charles and Thomas)- certainly enough to populate the east coast with "Rabuns" et. al. if not the whole country. Your posting does confirm something long suspected by my line, that we are not related to the western Virginia Rabuns - Augusta Co, etc.
I have a 96 year old Rabun, male relative that I will try to convince to join your project. One thing we know for certain. The Gov. of Georgia, William Rabun (1817-1819) left no legitimate male descendants beyond one son who had no male children.
