William Quait ~ written July 1803, probated May 1805

In the name of God amen. I William Quait of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina being weak in body but of sound mind and memory Thanks be to Almighty God for the same and calling to mind the uncertainty of this frail mortail life and that it is appointed for all men once to dye and after death to come to judgement do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following And First and princibly I commend my soul to God my Creator who gave it me trusting and believeing that I shall receive full pardon and true remission of all my sins and to be saved by the precious death and merits of my Blessed Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ and my body to the earth from which it shall return to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named and as for such worldly goods and istate with which it has pleased God to Bless me with I give and bequeath the same in the following manner.

This I alow all my just debts everywhere to be judiciously discharged I give and bequeath to my loving wife Elisabeth Quait the plantation whereon I now live during her natural life or widowhood and at her death or marriage to be left to my son Samuel Quait. I give and bequeath to my wife Elisabeth Quait all my movable property of every kind and in consequence thereof she my wife Elisabeth is to pay all my just debts likewise to pay fifty five dollars to Neley Kirkman for a colt which my son James Quait bought of her. I give and bequeath to my son Robert Quait one hundred acres of land beginning at the post oak on my North line Corner and Robert Hanners line on the East side of the original tract. I give and bequeath to my son James Quait one hundred acres of land off the South side of the plantation as it now stands. I give and bequeath to daughter Isabel Quait a grey mare 5 years old and her colt and his sadle her bed and furniture one cow 4 years old of a red color one red year old heffer and two year old steer her walnut chest six puter plaints 6 forks one puter dish one pot two chairs. I give to my daughter Margret Quait one two year old heffer and a cloke or five dollars in money over and above what she has already rc'd. I give and bequaith to my son William Quait ten shillings over what he has already. I give to my daughter Agnes Morehead ten shillings. I give to my daughter Mary Riddle ten shillings over what she has already rc'd. I give to my son David Quait ten shillings over and above what he has already rc'd. I give and bequaith to my Grand daughter Ann Quait daughter of Agnes Morehaed the sum of ten pounds hard money or to the value of that sum in property.

I do hereby further constitute and appoint Daniel Gillaspie and my wife Elisabeth Quait to be Executors of this my last will and testament revolking all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made and I do ordain this and this only to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of July One thousand eight hundred an three.

Guilford County May Court 1805

Thomas Landreth proved the execution of this will in Open Court - Then came in Elizabeth Quait widow O.D. and qualified an Executrix to the same and on motion ordered to be recorded.
