Hi Angel!
Many thanks for that feedback. I'd also put a note on the Manitoba list and a kind person from there had also come up with some information. However, John Pottinger's background is new. I've also now been shown the 1901 census which shows John as "Scotch" and surprisingly Ida as "Irish" - that's the first time any mention of Irish has appeared in my family research and I suspect it is not strictly true. Census information can be "variable" to say the least, with the information sometimes coming from next door neighbours if the family were not at home!
Tracing Ida to Manitoba now explains why we have a reference in our family story of "Saskatchewen" links (well nearly!!) Maybe she went there first!
