Hi Mary,

I have traced Absalom's family into Meigs/Athens Co., OH, along with your William H. Packard, Jr. I think (and I have no real proof except census records) that William H. Packard, Sr., was born about 1778, and not 1788.

In the 1800 census for his father, I believe he is the male 16-25 (born bet. 1775-1784). In the 1810 census, William is the head of his own household and his age is listed as 26-45 (born bet. 1766-1784) and in the 1830 census there are two males, one 40-49 (born bet. 1781-1790) and the other 50-59 (born bet. 1771-1780). I think William Sr. is the second man, and not the first (who could have been a relative or a farm hand or just a boarder).

Just a guess.

Ashley
