John and Benjamin O'Fallon were sons of James Fallon. James (1749-1794) was born in Ireland, took part as an officer in the American War of Independence. His elder son, Col. John O'Fallon (1793-1865) was well known as a philanthropist, the other, Benjamin (1793-1841) was a more romantic figure, best known for his success in establishing friendly relations with the Indians; he was called the "Father of the Tribes".

This information was taken from the book by Edward MacLysaght entitled "Surnames of Ireland".
