I just spoke with my mother-in-law, Jacqueline Sally (Schon) McCratic. She remembers five of Andrew and Pauline's children's names:
Frances
Joseph
Josephine (her mother)
Wanda (called Maude)
Tony
According to one of the census, there were four more children, apparently having died.
Tony caught TB from a bottle of beer that he and 5 of his best friends were passing around, while they were sitting on his porch. One of the guys had TB, they all caught it and died.
According to Mom (Jacqueline McCratic), her mother (Josephine) would talk about her mother (Pauline(a)) and her family from time to time. The story below was told to Mom by her mother:
Pauline(a) worked in the house of Andrew(j)'s father and mother in West Prussia. Andrew's father had served in the Franco-German War. Apparently, he did very well and was rewarded by being made a Baron. Thus his name was changed from Zukowski to Von Zukowski. Von meaning Baron.
Apparently the "Baroness" didn't like Pauline(a), as she was "below them". I guess she thought that Andrew(j) married below his station.
Apparently, they all came to America together (no proof yet), setteling in Chicago, IL.
Anyway, since their relationship wasn't the best (to say the least), there wasn't much communication nor association with Andrew(j)'s parents when they were all in the Chicago area.
I guess the Von Zukowski's disowned their son and his bride.
