1700’S MACPHEE, EWEN OF COLONSAY\, This clan has the distinction of including among its members the very last of the Scottish outlaws who strange though it may seem, lived only 100 years ago. This clansman, Ewen Macphee evidently started off his career by enlisting in the army, but due to a misunderstanding he found himself at variance with the military authorities, deserted and returned home. He was first brought to the public notice when he settled on an island in Loch Inoich. he recognized no law but his own, repudiated the rights of the landowner, and lived rent free. - from the book THE HIGHLAND CLANS page 192

C1623 MACPHEE, MALCOLM, CHIEF OF COLONSAY, in 1623 the clan supported Sir James Macdonald in his reBellion and their cheif was handed over to Argyll by Colkitto Macdonald. 8 years later Colkitto was charged with the cruel murder of Malcolm Macphee and several of his followers. shortly after this, Colonsay passed into the hands of the macDonalds. (Macphee of Colonsay was one of the principal chiefs who signed the statues of iona in 1609)
