Malcolm, I just read your posting. I suspect that there is a connection. My grandfather Mungo died on 9/9/1916. According to his death certificate, his brother, R.N.(or M.)McNinch, who resided at 6 St. George Road, Ayr, signed as "present" at the death. My wife and I went to Ayr in June of this year and tried to find out as much about the McNinches as we could. We found my grandfather's and greatgrandparents' graves in the municipal cemetery. Mungo's father and mother were William and Jane (Coofsar, but there are multiples spellings of this name) McNinch. I couldn't locate a listing of their children, but I've found a birth record for Mungo's younger brother Neil, born 3/22/1871, in St. Quivot, Ayr. I've already heard from one of Neil's descendants in response to my posting. I hope that this helps. Happy New Year!
