Hi all,
My great great grandfather was David McNinch, born Ireland abt. 1817, married Mary Anne Gibson, born either Scotland or South Carolina abt. 1825. (Their son Sylvanus' death certificate shows Mary b. Scotland, but census records show SC or US, and one spells out South Carolina.)
In 1870 David and Mary McNinch were in Atlanta, Fulton Co, GA with children born as early as 1851. I've been unable to locate the family any earlier than 1870 (and that was difficult since he was indexed there as "David McMuck" :-)
I've as yet found no McNinches or variations at all in Georgia in any census before 1870.
Since Mary may have been from S. Carolina, I checked for SC McNinches who were born in Ireland, looking for David and perhaps some of his siblings.
I found these, but no David:
Samuel, b. abt. 1805, Ireland
John, b. abt 1800, Ireland
James, b. abt 1800, Ireland
If anyone can connect my David b. abt 1817 to any of their McNinch ancestors from Ireland, I would be most appreciative. I'd be interested to know what anyone may have found about the McNinch families in County Antrim in any case.
