By McKeesport PA census records, I know my Myers family was related to Cardinal John McCloskey who was the Bishop of Albany. His cousin was Bishop Stephan V Ryan the Bishop of Buffalo. Two ends of the line if you will. The Myers family is married into the McIntyre's. Their Methodist but maybe not always. Bishop Stephen V Ryan has a brother that was a Methodist minister. His other brother, James F Rayn lived next door to the M E Church in McKeesport PA. The Stewart's are buried next to the McIntyre's at Versailles Cemetery in McKeesport. McKeesport is 13 miles south east of downtown Pittsburgh. The Iron Works Myers family seem to be related to Felix Grundy and Martin Van Buren by a Kentucky will. For sure, Major Mordecai Myers' wife Charlotte Bailey was a cousin of Hanna Hoes the wife of Martin Van Buren. Major Mordecai Myers was the Mayor of Schenectady. His brothers daughter was married into the Etting family of the Gratz Brothers who are married into the Myers family of Ft Myers in Lee County Florida. The Gratz family had close ties to George Croghan of Pittsburgh and to General George Rogers Clark, the brother of William Clark of Lewis and Clark Expedition out of Pittsburgh in 1803. William Clark was Catholic as well as George Croghan. The Gratz family was related to the Gist family of Christopher Gist who was Dr Thomas Walkers partner in the the first explorers of Kentucky. An obituary of James F Ryan says he had relatives in Ireland and was going to visit them that summer but he was killed in April of 1887. Bishop Stephen V Ryan said the funeral mass. The McCloskey's were well known riverboat family with homes in Pittsburgh and New Orleans. Same thing for the Myers family who is connected to Father Thomas Ewing Sherman the son of General William Tecumseh Sherman. He was a Catholic Priest. You can read about all these families in a book titled The Life of Father Thomas Ewing Sherman printed in 1959 My family sure was dancing around your family. I am not sure you can discount someone because they were in Ireland or Europe at the time. These families know how to travel. Notify Administrator about this message?
