Lisa,

Although your information is in different states (and times) than mine, I was struck by the mention of the names McIntire and Russell in the same posting. I have an Elijah McIntire in the 1850 Spencer County, KY census. He is listed with his wife Susan and their son, Joseph age 2. Also living with them is a carpenter named William Russell, aged 25 born in Kentucky.

I suspect Elijah's father is Henry McIntire who according to the same census was born 1790 in Virginia. Since Gaston, NC is near the Virginia border, I was curious if there might be a connection. Family tradition has it the family is Scots-Irish coming from Northern Ireland, but I have no proof of anything prior to the 1850's in Kentucky. Here is what information I do have:

According to "Spencer County, Kentucky Marriages and Vital Statistics":

1 March 1847 Elijah Thomas McIntire marries Susan Catherine Huffman bond: Fielding Dale
2 March 1847 Mildred Frances McIntire marries Fielding Dale bond: Elijah McIntire ( I believe Elijah and Mildred to be brother and sister)

27 March 1852 death of Mildred Dale age 27
1 April 1852 death of Susan McIntire age 22

1 Feb 1855 Elijah T. McIntire widower age 32 marries Virginia D. Bennett age 20

Living with Fielding and Frances (Mildred's middle name) Dale in the 1850 Spencer County KY census is Henry McIntire age 60 born in Virginia. I suspect this is the father of Elijah and Mildred.

I have more information on Elijah and his 2nd wife, but virtually none prior to this information. There is an H. McIntire in the 1840 Spencer County KY census with 2 males age 15-20 and a female age 10-15 and a female age 20-30. Elijah would be 17 and Mildred 15, but I don't know who the other children would have been.

I don't know if any of this means anything to you or not. I also don't know who William Russell is or his connection to the family.

Good luck in your search.

Carol
