Carol: Your posting here is VERY interesting! My Grt, Grt GF was one John William (or similar given names) who supposedly came from Scotland to America. The oral history states that he married an Irish lass whose father owned a (glass?) factory in Ireland, and then came to America. His Scottish point of departure was Perthshire. John William had a son named William Henry who changed the spelling of his surname to McEntire (from McIntyre) while serving in the Civil War. Then, William Henry McEntire married Hannah Rice, d/o Ephraim and Hannah Vandevere Rice and had two sons, both born in Indiana. The first, was named John William who was not all together mentally and lived with his mother til her death. He never married, nor had any other family. The 2nd born to William Henry was my grandfather, Charles Kelly McEntire, in 1875. He married my GM, Anna Mariah Jacobs in 1910 in Perry County, Illlinois and they lived in Murphysboro, Jackson County, Illinois. The name was changed back in its spelling to McIntyre between my mother's birth in 1917 and her father's death in 1937, after one of the family decided to do so based on the oral history. Thus, Charles Kelly was born McEntire and buried McIntyre. I have been unable to locate any links to any other McEntires or McIntyres in the 3 years of research. Other given names in the family after 1910 are: Charles Eugene, Earl Lester, Anna Ruth, David, Judith, (another) Charles and Earl Lester, Mary Jean, Michael, and Denise. Any comments? Still looking.......
