My mother's name was Evelyn McIntire or McIntyre. She was born in 1908 in Ponotoc County, OK. Her father left shortly before she was born or shortly after, and went back to Texas where he was supposedly from. His name was Charles, and her mother's name was Mary, nee Barnes.
After he left, her mother died and she was taken in and raised by neighbors, Thomas and
Donie (nickname?) Barber. All this is hearsay because her father never returned. She never knew any of her folks and everything she did know was told her by the Barbers. That is why the uncertainty of the spelling of her name.
The Barbers were probably in their thirties and Thomas was crippled from being thrown by a horse. If anyone who has knowledge of my mother would get in touch with me, I would certainly appreciate it. I would like to find out why my mother's father left her and her mother and never came back. Thanks
