Hi! I posted a message on the board about 1 year ago titled "Mayberrys of Woodleaf, NC". I didnt get a response yet, but your post included some names that I didnt include in my post so here goes: John Mayberry married to Charlotte (not sure of her last name)aquired 49.4 acres of land off rt 801 from Thomas L. and Ada Thompson. (not sure what year. these two familes could have been related) John's son Harvey Mayberry aquired the land from his father in 1896. Harvey married Mary Lee McKinney and begat my grandfather Roy and 11 other siblings: Mary Elizabeth, Jay Henry, Hubert, Polly, Rosalee, Andrew, Harry, Robert, Albert, William. The names in your post sounded similar to some of the names in my family although I am not sure of your background. I am historically English, assimilated Cherokee, and African American in equal parts. My family began to assimilate long before the "Trail of Tears" when the Cherokees were banned from North Carloina. Because my family stayed, they further assimilated into Americana. So, subsequently, the branches of the family tree are cut off at certain point and I cant trace back any further than John. I dont know if our family was owned in slavery by a white family named Mayberry or if the name legitimately came from a white ancestor of ours who married a Cherokee woman. (Im not sure if that was legal) If theres any Native American in your blood, we might be related. Tyiesha Mayberry Notify Administrator about this message?
