My husband's John MacAskill was born about 1755 at Rudh a Dunain, Isle of Skye. He was married to Christian Munro (daughter of John Munro and Christian MacLeod) about 1780. John MacAskill lived on the Isle of Skye before moving to UIG parish (Isle of Lewis) where he was the School Master. John died about 1841 in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Christian Munro died about 1805 in UIG parish, Isle of Lewis. John MacAskill and Christian Munro were established as the parents of Christiane MacAskill (wife of John McIver) by Joan Luthy and Bill Lawson. This was contained in a written statement made by Hazel Arnold McIver (wife of Angus Stewart McIver III), retired teacher and certified genealogist. My husband's grandmother was a McIver; hence my interest. Getting back to the MacAskill side of things, it appears as if the parents of the School Master John MacAskill were John MacAskill and Catherine MacLeod. This is as far as I have been able to go with this particular branch of the family. If anyone has any comments/suggestions as to where to go next, such would be greatly appreciated. It would even be more spectacular to discover a direct familial link with someone here! Warm regards, Michele Doucette Notify Administrator about this message?
