Since many people seem to be trying to find an ancestral link with General MacArthur, I thought some might find the following information, which I received from the archivist at the MacArthur Library, of interest:
Douglas MacArthur’s Great Grandmother and grandfather arrived in this country in 1825. They were from Glasgow and her husband and his father had recently died in Scotland. They came to America because she had family living in the United States. The ironic thing is that her maiden name was also MacArthur.
