Hello all the MACALUSO , all over the world! First I must tell I'm frensh, so my english is not very good, excuse for that. I've found in a Italian website a translation of our name, it's a real sicilian name, meaning a social position, and I write you the italian version:, siciliano Macaluso < macaluscio, voce d'origine araba per 'cotone mondato' ma soprattutto 'servo affrancato'. I try to translate: voice of arabic origin ' cotton peeled ' but above all ' servant freed'. try this translation by yourself , I'm not sure about my way of translation. However, it's incredible! Now, I know the meaning of my name!!! I hope you will be happy too. If my information are not good or if you have more, please post it. I've found in a another website, they came in Sicilia in the century 15, from somewhere around Turkia, but I have to make more investigation. I'm not sure we are all the same family , but anyway our ancestors was the same. We went in Sicilia 2 years ago, and a lot of persons have this name. What a pleasure to tell your name and don't have to spell it. My ancestors are from Petralia Sopprana and Petralia Sottana, and my particularity, is that my mother is also a Macaluso, so from my father they were from the downside of the village, and from my mother they were from the upside!!! Maybe they were parents, but nobody knowed it at the time they married. All my grandparents were born in Sicilia, but they have immigrate in front of the island, in Tunisia when they was childrens, because of the hard way of life in Sicilia. Isn't it a nice story?
