I think James knew the spelling of his famliy name. It was not unusual for children using differnt spelling. I found many exambles of this in my research. Children of the first Mebane in Penn. had differnt spelling ( some used Meben and another Mayben). Their descendant in NC used Mebane. Some of there children ,who went west as far as Texas, droped the "e"on the end. Notify Administrator about this message?
