MABIN is a variation of the Welsh MABAN. The root of MABAN was very old Welsh word "MAB" with suffic "AN". MABAN was pronunced May BIN and later that would become the surname MAYBIN. Other variation of MABAN are: MABANE,MAYBEN,MABEN, MEBANE,MEBEN,MEBIN,MEBYN. The welsh sound of "e" in English was similar to the letter "a". Thus the letters "a" and "e" were often used interchangeably in spelling names. I believe all variation listed above can be traced back to the Surname MABAN in the lowlands of Scotland. In my research of MABAN in Wales, Scotland, England, N. Ireland, and the US I have found over 50 vaiations. For more info see "A History of Surnames of the Britich Isles, by C. Ewen, London, 1931.
