I don't think anyone is questioning that Jacob was the son of an Alexander Lyon - the question is, WHICH Alexander?

Jacob, Revolutionary War vet, could not have been the grandson of William Lyon of Culpeper Co, VA, who signed for his (presumed) underage son, Alexander, in his 1780s marriage to Judith Hill of Amherst Co, VA. That Alexander would have been in Jacob's generation - in fact, Jacob would have been older than he.

That would mean that Jacob was the son of a much older Alexander Lyon of Culpeper Co. - one who may have been in the same generation as the William Lyon who died in 1802, naming a son Alexander of Caswell Co, NC. He must have been very elderly in 1825.
