What a long-winded diatribe about nothing. Just DNA test males in the US with the LaTourette (or whichever spelling...census takers were notoriously bad about correct spellings) surname and compare them to those of the name or similar names in France and South America. There are plenty of DNA surnames studies currently underway and the results can be very surprising. I trust the DNA alot more than verbos conjecture. That's 20 minutes I'll never get back.
