Mr. Murphy: Yes. It is original research to correct 10 different tales and fables and a complete lack of knowledge about the history of the Latourrettes in France before 1685. A Maude is definitely not one of the 8 children born to Jean Latourrette and Marie Mercereau, married July 16, 1693. They are Marie, Jean, Pierre, David, Susanne, Esther, Henry and James (born between 1693 and 1710). See Lyman Latourette's "Latourette Annals in America." I have seen this reference to a Maude and discussed it with Robert Hoadley, who frequently posts messages here. He may be able to able to help you. If I remember correctly the date given for this Maude and a Britton and the location mentioned in NY along the southern tier didn't seem to match up with what I know about the history of the region which was ONLY being settled after the American Revolution-- a date about 100 years after the people mentioned above were born. There is a good set of notes on the Latourettes-Brittons at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrichmo/misc/latourette_britton_notes.html but the names you mention are not found there. I will forward my notes here to Mr. Hoadley. John E. La Tourette Notify Administrator about this message?
