Hello! I was wondering if there is someone out there who knows anything about the plaque on the wall of Notre Dames des Marais Catholic church in La Ferte Bernard, France (near Le Mans). This is the town that Pierre Labbe (a soldier who came to Canada in 1666) is from. I found it in the summer of 2002 and have not been able to get any info on it since then. It said something like this: Quelqu'uns qui croira et battira sera sauve (those who believe and go to war, will be saved). The plaque had Pierre Labbe's name and birthdate (June 1643) along with another man's name (I forget his name, but his birthdate is quite a bit later than Pierre's - 60 or 70 years maybe). It said that they went to Canada and then it said "je me souviens" (the motto on the Quebec license plate). The plaque also had a couple symbols on it. The first one looks like mountains (maybe) - 3 or 4 upside down Vs. The second symbol is 3 green maple leaves. My brother suggested it might be a regiment of the Canadian army?? Would some Canadian people put the plaque there? Who? Why?

After we visited the church we went to the grave yard at LFB. There were absolutely NO Labbes there. I wonder what happened to them all. Did they die off? Were they actually buried in a town nearby? Was Pierre the last one?

I bought a book about the history of LFB, but I couldn't find any references to any Labbes there either.
any suggestions on where else I could look? Who else to contact?

Thanks
