Hi Glen,

I have been searching for my ancestor Michel LaBatte.
Here are the facts as I know them. My gtgrandfather was Francois LaBatte Born circa 1800 in Praire du Chien,Wisconsin. His father Michel LaBatte was born on Mackinac Island in 1876. There is mention of a Michel Labatte being one of the 1st settlers in Praire du Chien (Crawford County) and he arrived between 1881 and 1886, so I am assuming Francois grandfather was Michel LaBatte also. I had hopes of my Michel being the Simcoe Michel but I don't think so. At least I can't find a connection. So I'm wondering if you have any information about the #1 Labatte in your above message.
Francois and his father were fur traders and were employed by the American Fur Company at Mendota Minnesota.
Francois's father Michel was married to Angelique Wabasha,
Chief Wabasha's daughter.
Francois was married 3 times. 1st Nana Coussi,2nd Judith Prevost (my gtgrandmother) and 3rd Mary Iron Shields.
Francois was the first one killed at Morton Minnesota in the Souix Uprising.
Any Information you have would be appreciated.
My e.mail address is brmenden@aol.com
Thanks!
