Hello,
I am new to this genealogy lark, so please be patient :-)
My grandmother, Marilyn I. LaBarre, was born(1929)and raised in Sherwood ND, Renville County. Two brothers: Theodore and Gerald.
Her parents were: Frank R LaBarre of Sherwood (counted in census of 1920, age 16 yrs)Imogene P Mautz of Garrison, ND (McLean county)
Frank's parents were Isaac and Matilda Nadeau Labarre, although there is a variation in the spelling. Isaac has also been spelled "Icick" and Mathilda as "Mathilda." I don't know if Frank had any siblings. Frank died in WI in 1977.
Frank and Imogene (aka Pat) left ND in the '30s after surrendering their farm to the gov't. They went to Chicago.
I've been trying to locate Frank and his family in various fed/state papers and census, but no luck. I do know that there are still Labarre's in Devils Lake...can they be distant cousins?
My family says that they think our LaBarres are French Canadian, but I have no evidence of this. If there are any ND LaBarres out there...can you help? Maybe some anecdotal stuff that may help clarify things?
