LaBar, Jesse of Slatington, a dealer of groceries. He was born in Northampton Co., Nov 29, 1835, s/o George R. LaBar, who is now a resident of Northampton Co. having attained the good old age of 90 (1894). During his active years he followed the pursuit in Monroe Co, near the city of Stroudsburg. His father who bore the Christian name of Henry, also a native of this county and passed away in 1862, in his 95th year. The LaBar family have for many generations been prominent in the history and developement of this region, having emigrated to PA from France. The mother of our subject born the maiden name of Mary Long, her father being Major Long. Jesse moved to Monroe Co as an infant. He was Civil war vet. In Jan. 1856, he married Permila Showeriskey, whose birth took place in Reading, PA. 3 daughters and 2 sons were born to this union. Laura, w/o Dr. D.W> Stroup of Shenandoah, PA, Emma w/o Joseph Pfaff, of Slantington, and Howard. Members of the Presbyterian Ch. LaBar burials-Monroe Co Labar, Delaware Water Gap LaBar Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Cem. Mose Smith Cem. Wooddale Pocono Union Luzerne Co Labar, Rev. John, Methodist, of Wyoming boro was born Nov 5, 1825 in Pittston twp. Son of Jacob and Margaret (Fox), they were the parents of 7 children, 4 are living (1893). Our subject was 5th in the order of birth. Mr. LaBar married Dec 31, 1846 to Mary A. d/o Lorenzo and Mary (Eennett) Ruggles. Children, 9 children blessed this marriage, 5 are living, viz; Mary Margaret w/o Frederick Atherton, Pauline, w/o James Lindslay, Lorenzo G. of Scranton, William S., of Wilkes Barre and Reuben N. of Lock Haven.
