Hi Gerry: I finally got to Windsor the end of September to go with a fellow researcher to the Frenchtown Chapter of the French Canadian Historical Society's seminar in Monroe Michigan. We were planning to make a visit to the Windsor Library but we got fooled by their hours and were closed. Will be going back there Oct 25 and am making sure we get to the library before it closes this time. My friend had been to Belle River and did alot of photocopying and I have in front of me now a copy of the baptismal certificate of Marie Labadie which reads as follows: CERTIFICATE OF BAPTISM Church of: Assumption 350 Huron Church Rd. Windsor N9C 2J9 This is to certify that Marie Labadie Child of Antoine Louis Labadie and a Indian woman (Sauteuse) Born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on the 25th day of October 1782 was Baptized on the 27th day of October 1782 According to the rite of the Roman Catholic Church By Rev. Fr. Hubert the sponsors being Jean Baptist Martin Marie Catherine Chene as appears from the Baptismal register of this church. Dated Nov. 10, 1991 GE Beaune C.S.B. Pastor So this proves that at least one more of Antoine's so-called illegitimate children was baptized. I also have a copy of the Marriage certificate of Marie which is as follows: CERTIFATE OF MARRIAGE Church of Assumption 350 Huron Church Rd. Windsor N9C 2J9 This is to Certify That Benjamin Gregoire Nantais and Marie Descompte were lawfully married on the 7th day of October 1799 According to the rite of the Roman Catholic Church and in conformity with the laws of the province of Ontario, Rev. Fr. Marchand officating in the presence of Alexis Maisonville and Louis Descetre Witnesses, as appears from the Marriage Register of this church. Dated April 11, 1991 GE Beaune C.S.B. Pastor These were my husband's 3rd great grandparents. I didn't get to go through all the records she photocopied but hope to do so when I stay there this time. I also have the copies of baptismal certificates for the rest of Benjamin and Marie's children and some further down the different lines. I hope to find more when we go to the library but will have to go to Belle River another day as they are only open on Tuesdays. Will let you know if I find anything interesting!
