A qoute from YOUR ANCIENT FAMILY TIES by REGINALD OLIVIER: "In some instances, you will see the following: 'dit' ie; Perron dit Gosselin. This means that henceforth the surname is to be considered as Gosselin but he does not wish to lose his identity as Perron. The main reason is because the child was raised by another family; probably because the child was an orphan." The implicaations of this are profound. 1) Descomps dit Labadie was not a Descomps by birth. Indeed the same book lists 2 different Labadie entries dating back to the 1600's in Quebec. 2) In the Labadie dit Badichon relationship there probably was as many believe only a country marriage not blessed by the church, and the Badichon name was the indian name of the woman. That would give an identity to the woman MARIE aka MANNON aka MARIE MANNON as BADICHON, not as a name arbitrarily given to Labadie by the indians because of pronunciation problems. 3) The real surname of all the Labadie dit Badichon descendants is Badichon and we're all bastards in the eyes of the church. Have fun with those thoughts. ENJOY.
