I'm not sure where Haley came from. There is a Haley Johnson in Guilford in 1830, 1 male 30-40; 1 female 20-30. This could be Haley and Rosannah, althouh based on her age in some of the other censuses, she would have been in her late teens in 1830. I have a death certificate for Elizabeth Johnson Bailey, Haley's daughter. The handwriting is difficult to read, and I thought it gave her mother's maiden name as Welborn; another researcher read it as Williams. It really can be interpreted either way. I noticed in one of your posts that there is a connection between Leander and some Williams. This may be significant. (I have a death certificate for someone in an unrelated family that gives the maiden name of the man's grandmother instead of his mother.) I'm reasonably sure that Peter Johnson owned the property where my grandmother was born and lived after she married. I need to see if I can find land records that apply. The cemetery record of Bethel UMC in Alamance County where Rosannah is buried lists her as the wife of Mahala Johnson. This is the only place I have seen his name as Mahala. My grandmother's maiden name was Lucina Marilla Henrietta Johnson. She must have been named for Lucina Kivett. It appears that you and I have another connection - the Cheeks.
