I have a tattered copy of a New Testament that belonged to Peter P. JOHNSON 1841-1910 (my great grandfather). My records show Peter as the son of Rosa KIVETT and Haley JOHNSON. Peter and his family lived in Alamance County, North Carolina.
This book apparently first belonged to Josiah ALLEN who presented it to Lu Sinnia (handwriting poor and faded, but I think I have transcribed it correctly) KIVETT. On another page is the following:"Lu Sina Kivett presented to Peter Johnson 1875."
Peter JOHNSON'S family Bible does not list his parents, but in the front of the Bible is this notation: "Lucinia Kivett Departed this Life January the 12, 1897."
I have a copy of the death certificate for Eliazbeth JOHNSON BAILEY, Peter Johnson's sister. On it her parents are listed as Haley JOHNSON and Rosa WELBORN.
I have a copy of the death certificate in another family where the grandmother's maiden name was given instead of the mother's maiden name and wonder if this happened in this case.
Can anybody shed any light on this family?
