I am a descendant of Peter Kivett and Anna Barbary through their son Henry, etc. Coincidentally, I am also a descendant of Peter "Barbary" of Tyrell Co., NC. His surname was actually Barbre. One of his sons was Jesse Barbre, from whom I descend. The Barbre family was French Huguenot. They were in the tidewater counties of eastern North Carolina in the early 1700s. Our Kivetts don't tie in with them.
By contrast, Peter Kivett was Pennsylvania German & migrated to Randolph Co., NC in the late 1700s with a group of Pennsylvania Germans. They either were or became Quakers & after settling in NC, began mixing with non-German Quaker families, like the Aldridges.
I suggest that Anna Barbary's roots will be found in Pennsylvania, amongst the Germans. By the way, has anyone ever seen proof that her maiden name was really Barbary? I have often times wondered if her given name was simply Anna Barbara...
