Robert Mitchell Kivett was born near Liberty, North Carolina at the old Homstead on 8 Sept.1857. He left North Carolina about 1878 and migrated west to Missouri and later Kansas. On August 4, 1883 he married Annabelle Berry, who was born near Coffyeville, Shelby county, Missouri, on October 1, 1862. They pioneered in western Kansas and Colorado for maney years. About 1902 he sold out and moved to California. They settled in Santa Rosa, where for several years he worked in a large tannery. In 1907 they moved to Ramsey, Idaho where he puchesed a timber chain. Two years later he returned to Oakland, where he worked for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company until ill--health forced his retirement in 1925. He died 13 April 1927 in Oakland and his wife Annabelle died 25 Oct 1927. Both were cremated and their ashes repose in the Oakland Columbarium.
