Yes Michael it is very interesting. However, the first name of Pieter can not be of German origins despite the various ways that other researchers might see the last name. This site proposes that the last name spelling is Kuwit with two dots over the u. I'm not certain that I see that handwriting as Kuwit but, I do agree that there are definately two dots over the first part of the surname. As to the first name of Pieter; there are three possibilities Danish, Dutch and last but, not least Belgian.(Flemish) Germans spell Peter not Pieter. My own personal theory is that the coastal area about where Holland and Belgium have their borders is the place of origin of Pieter and his wife (maybe).
