Cahoone or Colqu(a)houn, grandson of a Scots lord, was a close friend of our ancestor Joseph(2)Kent, he originally of Dedham MA in 1645, and who, with his wife Susannah Austin George of Braintree MA, first settled Block Island in 1661 along with other Braintree residents, and who, apparently along with transported Scots prisoners of war captured by Cromwell's armies at the Battle of Dunbar, was subsequently sent to New England and indentured for his ship passage...to the Saugus and Braintree Ironworks... Apparently your ancestor was close enough to our Samuel2 Kent so that at his death at the beginning of the King Phillip War, Samuel2 became the guardian of William Cahoone's son Joseph2 Cahoone...who succeeded William Cahoone as Swansea MA's brickmaker...and who then married his guardian Samuel2 Kent's niece Hannah Kent in 1689. Another connection to the King Phillip War devolves from our Joseph2 Kent's spouse Desire Cushman, who lived with her Mayflower grandmother Elizabeth Tilley-Howland and grew up in her uncle and aunt's house at Wannamoisett...they the James Brown(e) and Lydia Howland(Mayflower John Howland m. Elizabeth Tilley)who were the son and daughter-in-law of Plymouth's asst. Governor John Brown(e), who was Plymouth's chief negotiator with the Wampanoags and King Phillip/Metacom himself... The scandal is that while asst. Governor John Brown(e) was less-than-successful at preventing the King Phillip War, he was more than successful at aquiring the rather large tract of land from the Wammpanoag's former lands in the Seekonk-Rehoboth-Riverside-BarringtonMA/RI area known then as Wannamoisett...
