Bertha Pergamenter Jacoby was my gr,gr,grandmother. I was looking for Jacoby information when I found your message. She was first married to Mitchel Robinson, from whom I descend. Mitchel died in 1858 when she was pregnant with my gr, grandmother Melia Robinson (Mann). Bertha was born in Posen and is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Charleston. She died in 1902. They lived in Charleston. She had 3 children with Robinson:Hannah (Shwartzberg), Rudolph, and my gr, grandmother. Klyde Robinson, a retired judge, descends from Rudolph, and lives in Charleston. He is interested in family history and would enjoy hearing from you. Bertha must have been quite a character because shortly after Robinson died she married Jacoby, who was from the small country town of Summerville. She may have had an additional child to Nathaniel and Susan. My great aunt said there was also a daughter named Theresa- but I can't verify this. Nathaniel is buried next to Bertha. Family legend has it that Bertha started a toy store in the 1880's in Charleston that became the oldest bicycle store in the country..It closed in the early1990', still family owned. Would enjoy knowing more about Bertha and would enjoy finding her picture. Just a question for you>> Was Susan somehow in the circus business? My grandmother's housekeeper who worked for the family for over 60 years, nursed my invalided gr-grandmother In Spartanburg in the 1920's. When I was a child, she told me that Susan came to visit her half-sister and walked in with a monkey on a leash>>The maid thought that Susan had run off to join the circus when she was a young girl! I was fascinated.
