A biography/family history of William F. Jacobs, Harlowton, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 1047 & 1048. William was born, 12 May 1890, son of Henry and Barbara Jacobs. Henry was born in the Province of Tooning, Denmark. They had two children: Harry R. and William F. Their mother, Barbara, died 10 days after the birth of William.
Henry Jacobs was a sugar maker by trade and worked in London, but as a young man came to the US and spent some time in St. Louis, Kansas City, and St. Joseph, MO, before he located permanently to Salisbury, MO, in 1883, and engaged in the manufacture of sugar and production of tobacco.
After losing his mother when he was 10 days old, William F. was taken by his father's brother, William F., and grew up in his family. He was educated in the schools of Michigan. He learned the butchering business with his uncle and lived with him until 1908 when he came to Harlowton, MT, where he was in the cattle and butchering business. In May 1915, he went into a butchering business of his own. In 1919, William bought a ranch one mile from Harlowton, where he farmed and raised cattle, while continuing in the butchering business.
