I have been reading some of your old postings and inqueries about the Jacobs Community of Rusk County, Texas. I grew up around there.

The only Jacobs I actually knew there was a Claude Jacobs. His house is still there.

There were two stores there with groceries and gasoline. It's been a long time, but if I remember correctly, Claude Jacobs owned one of them. The other across the highway was owned by Wyches. I never knew his first name because he went by Judge. I believe he was a Justice of the Peace. Judge Wyche had a daughter named Alice Wyche who married a Lon. She was Alice Lon, the original Champagne Lady on the Lawrence Welk Show. My father once ran a barber chair in the back of their store.

There were two of the Jacobs girls who married Hunts, my mother's cousins.

Lena Jacobs married James Hunt. She was a teacher in the old Jacobs School, a 2-room building. She had 2 children in the school, Ruby Frances Hunt and Charles Porter Hunt. They all transfered to the London School in New London, Texas. I don't know if the Jacobs school had closed or not. Lena, Frances and Charles were all killed in the London School Explosion after transfering there.

Most of the children from the Jacobs School were killed in New London.

Henry Marshall Hunt, a student in the Jacobs School was the son of Charles B. Hunt and his wife, Maude Jacobs.

I have a photo of one of the classes at the Jacobs School with a letter to go with it from Virginia Dare Warren, a student in the photo. If you would like a copy of the photo, e-mail me, and I will send it and the letter.

Lastly, the land there that is fenced and marked "Private Property" might belong to Rusk County. The County Road Commissioner has some buildings there where they store equipment.
