Hi Becky, I am Dominique Jacober and I live in France. I just discovered the message you posted two years ago on the genforum. I have been told that a Jacober family moved from Switzerland (village Matt in Glarus canton) to Alsace France during the 17th or 18th century. Several members of the family went to the US around 1900. One I know of is René Jacober the nephew of my grand father. He was a pastrycook and went to the US in the early 1900's. He had two sisters Maria and Marguerite. His gather Alphonse Jacober was a monumental mason in Altkirch Alsace and died in 1915. His grand father Joseph Jacober (1848-1900)was a monumental mason in Wittersdorf nearby, as well as his great grand father Joseph Jacober (1819-1890). His great great grand father (born in 1789) was a hosier in Wittersdorf.
Please let me know if this relates to your family and if you need more.
Yours, sincerely, Dominique Jacober.
