This is my family that I haven't been able to research with any sucess. A passport for William, age 13, shows he was employed as a factory worker. The area that the family lived is near the town of Gorlitz, Poland. William married Ernestine over the objections of his family. Ernestine was of the Lutheran religion and William was raised Catholic. That didn't stop the marriage and I know that they had several children while in Germany. Our family story is that several children died and William and Ernestine decided to leave Germany. I located a record of William Jackel (no family listed) left Hamburg Jun 6, 1882 on a ship for Australia. William told the family that they arrived in NYC on Oct 1, 1882. Which is what is listed on his Declaration of Intent. I have found no record of this arrival. They arrived in the US with 2 daughters and came directly to Burnet Co., TX. This is the what little information I have on the family: Husband: Joseph Jackel Wife: Rachel Girbig Children 1 F Auguste Louise Jackel Birth: 8 Feb 1847 Prussia, Schlesien, Pfaffendorf, Bei Lauban, (Rudzica) 2 M Wilhelm Jackel Birth: 27 Nov 1849 Prussia, Schlesien, Pfaffendorf, bei Lauban, (Rudzica) Census: 1900 TX, Burnet Co.
