I am new to family tracing so you have probably moved on by now, but....
Joseph was eldest brother both to John, my father's great grandfather and his youngest brother George who was my mother's grandfather.
Did you trace Further back than Robert(1800)'s father Robert (1766)? I have Joseph, married to Ruth Simpson, but I have conflicting evidence on this.
